1º Encontro de clássicos do Portal dos Clássicos - Costa Nova, Aveiro

Grande fim de semana na Costa nova em Aveiro.O Manta participou no 1º Encontro Nacional do Portal dos Classicos.Uma exelente organização, e um convivio memorável.
Last weekend was my Manta’s first time in Old cars meetings.I’ve driven about 200km to the meeting. I was a little concern but confident, about if the car would get there with no troubles.The trip went pretty well, I’ve only stopped once to check all the levels but everything was perfect.When I arrived at the meeting … new check up and two screws missing!!! The carb solex diaphragm was loose. But with other people help I’ve improvised a solution.The meeting took place in a Camping park near Aveiro. Two days meeting new people and admiring old cars. There were some entertaining like local museum visits, slide arrow shooting, slalom, etc…It was perfect!

Slalom de regularidade ... 8º lugar!


Foi o meu primeiro slalom, e ainda por cima levava a minha esposa a pisar o pedal do travão que ela tem lá no lugar do pendura!O medo dela era tanto que levou o cronometro na mão e nem conseguiu ver os tempos!
No entanto adorámos a experiência!
I also participated in the slalom race … and for my first time the 8th place was really great. It was regularity slalom. The important was to be as fast on the going as in the coming, for each second of difference there was 10 seconds penalization.I’m also glad because the winner was an awesome Opel reckord D Sprint.

Um rádio para o Manta...

Tenho andado pelo ebay à procura de um rádio para instalar no Manta. Os rádios que eram mais vulgarmente instalado na época eram os Blaupunkt Frankfur, apesar de serem equipados com outros modelos Blaupunkt também (LeMans, Karlruhe, Koln).
Existem algumas imagens de referencia nos catálogos e publicidade da época, e é por aí que me tenho guiado.

I’ve been looking on ebay for a radio to my Manta. The most usual original radios installed were the Blaupunkt Frankfurt, but there were other Blaupunkt models also (LeMans, Karlruhe, Koln).
There are some catalogue and advertising images showing the original radio, and that was the base of my research.



Embora o rádio seja "generalista" a moldura do rádio era especifica para o tablier do Manta e Ascona.

The Blaupunkt radio is common in many other cars, but there was a original radio frame specific to fit in the Manta and Ascona Dash. (I already have 4)



Entretanto e resultado das minhas pesquisas, já consegui adquirir quase tudo ... só falta a coluna!

Meanwhile I have almost everything … to complete the installation. It’s only missing one speaker and the antenna.

Um Blaupunkt Karlruhe... um modelo superior ao Frankfurt!

Um Blaupunkt LeMans, produzido especificamente para a Opel ... e aqui já com a moldura para o tablier do Manta!

Restauro das Jantes - Wheels restoring

35 Anos depois, decidi que estava na altura de reparar as jantes. Então nada melhor que enviar para Braga, para desempenar e pintar.

After 35 years, the wheals needed to be restored.So I took them out and sent them to a specialized shop, in Braga, Portugal.

Entretanto enquato esperava pelas jantes ... aproveitei para dar uma limpeza e tirar a ferrugem aos tambores dos travões traseiros. Foi dado um conversor de ferrugem escova de aço e lixa. Falta pintar com tinta preta de alta temperatura!

Meanwhile and because the rear drums were rusted, I removed them and cleaned it, and sanded it to prepare for paint.I've painted it with high temperature black ink!

Por fim, e passado 15 das lá chegaram as jantes de Braga ... 32€ cada mais IVA !!!

Mas o trabalho justifica a fama da casa, e estão impecáveis. Antes de montar as jantes foi feita uma limpeza, para tirar a terra acomulada.Tudo à base de muita esfrega, trincha e petroleo.

After 15 days, the wheals arrived. They cost me 32€ plus vat (21%) !!!
But the work is just perfect they look great. Before placing the wheels I’ve cleaned the wheel hole with petrol brush and a lots of arm’s hard work.
